Strelitzia is the official name of this flower, but its commonly known as bird of paradise or crane flower (in South Africa). As common as they are in Southern California you frequently run into ones that are similar to the cropped flower in the top left, its rare to find ones that are as vibrant and alive as the one in the center of the image

One of the nice things about low tides is getting the ability to see some of the wildlife that is undre the ocean. When I took this picture I truly believed that Barnacles were part of the plants kingdom but upon research its a relative of crabs & lobsters! Barnacles are exclusively marine, and tend to live in shallow and tidal waters, typically in erosive settings.
