Royal Poinciana

A picture of a Royal Poinciana tree in San Clemente from our day trip back in February of this year. Thanks to google I was able to do a search with the image to figure out the name of the tree and from there I was able to look up what I wanted to find out about it. It originally came from Madagascar and was introduced to Yucatan, Mexico in the late 19th century. It grows there now in the wild but in other regions its grown artificially as part of avenues and parks as in this case. I don’t blame them, they are very pretty.

I had initially thought it was Japanese since it looks like a large bonsai tree, I was thinking… California… Pacific Ocean… WWII… Japan… thats how I did my math but unfortunately I was wrong… not even close :)
